After the setback that is the COVID-19 pandemic, the Premier League finally came to a close. Liverpool saw their record-breaking season crowned with a title while Arsenal saved their season with an FA Cup title.

But we are here today to talk about the players and their individual efforts. Here are some of the players that marked the 2020 English Premier League season.

Kevin De Bruyne (Manchester City)

The Citizens may have not won the title this season but they saw De Bruyne have his most prolific season to date. The Belgium international cemented himself as the best attacking midfielder in the league.

Kevin had a 33 goal involvement tally this season with a record 20 assists to his name. He tied Thierry Henry’s record for assists in a single season and topped it off with 13 goals, which mostly came from long range.

Jordan Henderson (Liverpool)

Liverpool’s caption finally got the praise that he deserves. He had his best season to date and contributed immensely to Jurgen Klopp’s machine. Mostly criticized during his career, the 2020 season was Jordan’s coming of age season. He held the midfield with stellar passes and tireless running.

For his efforts, Jordan Henderson was awarded the FWA Player of the Year Award.

Virgil van Dijk (Liverpool)

Once again, Virgil van Dijk has shown why he is the most expensive and perhaps the best defender in the world. After helping the Reds get the Champions League title last season, he was a rock in the defense in their title-winning Premier League season.

Van Dijk played every minute in the title season and became just the fifth player in EPL history to do so. In fact, he is on an 89-game run where he started and finished the entire match. During that period he kept 42 clean sheets and only received three yellow cards.

Danny Ings (Southampton)

Ings finally overcame his woes and injuries this season and was the brightest spot for the average Southampton side. Danny Ings’ finishing ability helped the Saints finish 11th in the Premier League, something that nobody expected.

Danny was the most prolific striker in the Premier League this season, even though he finished as the second top goalscorer with 22, only one short of Jamie Vardy. Ings was deadly from almost everywhere on the pitch, scoring a goal every 128 minutes.

Sadio Mane (Liverpool)

Another important piece of Klopp’s title-winning puzzle was the Senegalese attacking winger, Sadio Mane. He had yet another stellar season to his name, racking up 18 goals and 9 assists in the process. But what made his efforts on the pitch even greater is the ability to perform when he is most needed, creating some of the most memorable moments from this season.

Mane is on the shortlist for the PFA Player of the Year Award and is unofficially the quickest player in the league.

Bruno Fernandes (Manchester United)

The January signing that is Bruno Fernandes has almost singlehandedly saved Manchester’s season. He was prolific in the midfield and kept things together and even managed to get on the score sheet eight times.

He is unbeaten during his 14 Premier League games this season and has greatly contributed to the Red Devils finishing third and bagging in the Champions League spot for next season.
