The Premier League Title Race | What Do Things Look Like at the Midpoint of the Season?

By on February 21, 2024 0 119Views

The Premier League title race 2023/24 is slowly shaping up to be one of the most fascinating ones in recent history. With Manchester City winning 3 Premier League titles in a row, most people feel that it is time for a change, which is where Liverpool and Arsenal come in.

However, this is not the opinion that Pep Guardiola and his men have. Man City is arguably the best team in the world, but at the moment, they are not putting up a title challenge that we have been used to in the past three years.

Is it really time for a change? The current landscape of the Premier League sees three clear title contenders. Liverpool is the current leader of the league, with Arsenal and Man City following suit. There is still a lot to be played, but the 2023/24 season is slowly but surely coming down with the best Premier League title race that might go down to the wire and the final match week.

Liverpool – Klopp’s Final Goodbye

Jurgen Klopp recently came out to say that whatever happens, this will be his final season sitting on Liverpool’s bench. He decided that it was time to leave and we all cannot but feel that he wants to end things on high note and win his second EPL title.

The Reds do seem solid at the moment and as the season progressed, they managed to patch up the holes in their lineup that were leaking. Klopp somehow managed to rejuvenate the midfield. But he has found a way to fit everyone in the lineup with a top-centred attack at his disposal.

Darwin Nunez may have become a walking meme this season, but he is producing. When healthy, Diogo Jota is scoring for fun. Mo Salah wants to stay, at least for now. While Trent Alexander-Arnold is still not sure whether he is a midfielder or a right back, his numbers speak for himself.

Arsenal – Don’t Think About Last Season

The Arsenal Premier League title race sounds like a deja vu. We already covered this story last year and it seems that we are doing it again. Hopefully for Arteta, the outcome is different.

The Gunners broke down at the finish line last season and fumbled the EPL title right into Man City’s hands. This time around, they want to keep things firmly in their hands.

Visibly, the Arsenal from last season is not the same Arsenal that we have now. They seem a bit more cautious in their approach to games. But the results are there, and the team is more steady.

What this team needs is Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli getting back to form. They are looking better at the start of the new year. This ultimately brings both results and hopes for Arsenal and them finally lifting the title.

Manchester City – Can They Bring Back the Magic?

Man City may be looking like they are suffering from title fatigue. But the man in charge is not somebody who will back down without a fight. Pep had the misfortune to play almost half the season without Kevin De Bruyne, who just got back from injury. With Kevin’s return, things started looking a lot better.

Erling Halaand is a modern striker who is capable of bagging 50 goals a season. But he still needs somebody to make him a target in the attack. Julian Alvarez is an out-of-this-world talent. But he still needs the experience that brings titles.

Nevertheless, the Citizens are not backing down from the title race Premier League. They still have a lot to play for. But they do need to improve their defence. Especially Ederson, who is not on the level that he was in the previous seasons.
