UEFA, the governing body of European football, made it official that Euro 2020 is going to be postponed. The unexpected situation with the outbreak of COVID-19 has put football and all of the sports on hold for an unpredicted period of time. The only way to ensure the safety of the people involved and preserve the integrity of the competition was to move it for a year.

The original date for the start of Euro 2020 was June 11, but now it seems that we are going to see it start on June 11, 2021.

The decision was made by the UEFA Executive Committee that includes 55 representatives of national associations and representatives of the European Club Association, European Leagues, and FIFPro Europe. UEFA president, Aleksander Ceferin, made the ruling and informed the public on Tuesday about the inevitable postponement of the competition.

The main idea was to allow or at least give a chance for all the national competitions to finish. Besides prioritizing national leagues, UEFA also postponed all the national friendly matches as well as the additional Euro 2020 qualifiers for the time being.

Euro 2020 was supposed to be a celebration of 60 years of the competition and will be held for the first time in 12 different countries across Europe.
