Premier League – Manchester City Vs Leicester: Review
The Citizens lost to the Foxes. It was not just a matter of who wanted it more. It was about who had their best players on the team. Man City had too many injuries to match Leicester’s team composition. With players like Aguero and Jesus missing from the lineup, the game was already more than a challenge to the Citizens.
It was reasonable to expect them to put up a fight, though. Up until this match, City had not lost an opening match since the one against Southampton at the start of the 90s. Likewise, Leicester had not beaten Manchester in the Premier League since 2016.
Vardy’s Hat-Trick
The clash started well for the Citizens. The first goal came from Riyad Mahrez mere four minutes in. However, Vardy equalized in minute 37. This was a penalty goal. The first half ended with 1-1 and it could have been anyone’s game. However, Vardy not only started off the second half by putting Leicester ahead but he also scored a hat-trick.
After replacing Dennis Praet, who was starting to get unstable in his gate, James Maddison made the score 4-1 in Leicester’s favor. Though Nathan Aké tried to prove CIty’s not down for the count by scoring his first goal in the team, Youri Tielemans made use of the awarded penalty and sealed away any chance of victory for the Citizens. Meanwhile, Vardy went out of the game for some well-deserved rest. This was an amazing day for Leicester. This is their first competition where they won three opening games in a row. However, more than that, they loaded the CIty’s side with 5 goals. Something like this has not happened since Guardiola took over as manager. This win puts them at the top of the Premier League board for now. If Vardy keeps this up, Leicester is in for quite a season.
