Transfer Talk: Where Will Guglielmo Vicario End up?

By on July 14, 2023 0 438Views

One of the most talented and best goalkeepers of Serie A, Guglielmo Vicario, is set to join Tottenham Hotspur this season. Vicario helped Empoli stay up in the Serie A due to his tremendous saves record. He also did enough to convince Italy’s coach, Roberto Mancini, to call him part of Italy’s squad.

Guglielmo Vicario is a goalkeeper slated for big things. The 26-year-old shot-stopper may not hold the same chops as Gianluigi Donnarumma. Even with him being two years his senior, he has the potential to replace the PSG goalkeeper on a more permanent basis between Italy’s sticks.

Where Will Guglielmo Vicario End up

A Chance at Tottenham

Guglielmo Vicario came to the North side of London with the aim of acting as support to long-term captain Hugo Lloris. But Guglielmo’s £17 million price tag may become a steal for the Spurs. After one of the worst seasons in his career, the French national goalkeeper Lloris admitted that he wants to leave the Lillywhites

Tottenahm’s initial idea was to replace Lloris with Brentford’s David Raya. He was by his own right one of the best players of the previous Premier League season. The Spaniard contributed to one of the league’s best defences and almost earned a European spot with the Bees.

However, as things stand at the moment, Raya will not be making a switch. News broke that Brentford rejected Daniel Levy’s £40 million bid to make Raya switch allegiances. Tottenham will most likely not be going over that figure, leaving Vicario with a shot at as a regular starter.

This just might be the best option for the Spurs. Vicario is too good to act as a secondary keeper. After what he did at Empoli, he should be starting in North London. No matter if Lloris decides to leave or not, Vicario deserves a chance to show how much he is worth.

Vicario Destined Bigger Things

Empoli were a bit reluctant to sell Guglielmo Vicario at first. But they knew a good opportunity when they saw on. At the same time, they didn’t want to stand in their player’s path and him reaching his potential.

Empoli’s coach, Paolo Zanetti, has revealed that Vicario’s stay in North London may be shorter than everybody thinks. He has stated that Guglielmo playing style and nature is perfect for a club like Inter.

After losing David de Gea on a free, Manchester United is looking for a replacement goalkeeper. Erik ten Hag has his sights set on Inter’s Andre Onana. He is willing to do anything to bring the Cameroon international to the red side of Manchester. If Onana truly leaves, Inter might start to consider Vicario as his substitute.

However, for this to happen, we have to wait and see how Guglielmo fares in London. If Lloris leaves, Vicario will only have former English international Fraser Forster competing for the number one spot. The 35-year-old shot-stopper made 14 caps for the Lillywhites last season, sometimes even chosen in front of Lloris.

Inter will probably be watching the situation in North London closely. If Vicario falls out of favour with coach Angelos Postecoglou, they might swoop in and steal Vicario away on a bargain.
